What happens when you mix red and green?
When you mix red and green light (additive color mixing), you get yellow. This is how screens and digital displays work. However, when mixing red and green paint or pigments (subtractive color mixing), you typically get a brown or muddy color.
Our color mixing tool simulates both types of mixing, with the default being additive mixing (light-based) which is most relevant for digital design.
What colors make purple?
Purple is created by mixing red and blue. The exact shade of purple depends on the ratio and intensity of red and blue you use:
- More red creates red-purple or magenta
- More blue creates blue-purple or violet
- Equal amounts create a balanced purple
How do I make pink color?
Pink is created by mixing red with white. The more white you add, the lighter the pink becomes. In digital terms, pink is essentially red with high brightness and saturation values.
You can also create different shades of pink by mixing red with small amounts of other colors like yellow (for warm pink) or purple (for cool pink).
What is the difference between RGB and CMYK?
RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is an additive color model used for digital displays. Colors are created by adding light, with white being all colors combined and black being the absence of light.
CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black) is a subtractive color model used for printing. Colors are created by absorbing/subtracting light from white paper.
Use RGB for web design and digital projects, and CMYK for print materials.
What are complementary colors?
Complementary colors are pairs of colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. When placed next to each other, they create high contrast and vibrant designs. Examples include:
- Red and Green
- Blue and Orange
- Yellow and Purple
